Gospel Wednesday - Fred Hammond No Weapon

Image
I first remeber listening to a Fred Hammond song at my brother's house.  It was a duo with Musiq Soulchild.  I ask my brother to play it again and again.  This song, No Weapom, is that type of song.

Thoughts

Image
Some thoughts i had about I Donate Music.  I'm not going to rush making this a nonprofit.  First of all because of the cost and second I want to be serious about this project and not let it fizzle.  In the past sometimes I got overly excited about and project then I stop  basically wasting time.  Don't get me wrong I am ecstatic about it and I want it to be a success. I also will continue doing my art and writing.  Some of the money that I make will go to I Donate Music.

Buy Ebro's Top 50 Rappers by Derrick W. Jackson

Image
Click here to view and buy the book.   EBRO is a radio personality on Hot 97 in New York and hosts the morning show. This sketch book is Ebro’s list of the top 50 rappers of all time. I believe these lists started from a podcast and XXL re-tweeted it. A lot of people posted their top 50 rappers. Being a radio dj for Hot 97, one of America’s baddest radio stations, what Ebro says carries weight. Who isn’t a fan of rap? Nas, Jay Z, Tupac, and Notorious BIG are only a few rappers that have cemented their legacy with their music. Music that is timeless like LL Cool J’s “I Need Love.”Ebro, being an expert when it comes to the music and the artist’s that perform it, is the go to person for this list of the top 50 rappers. He also was Program Director for Hot 97. I challenge other artists to draw Ebro’s list.

Neo Soul Playlist

I found this Neo Soul intrumental mix.  Sounds pretty good so far.

Trailer - Aretha Genuis on National Geographic

Image
This is a very good series on the life of Aretha Franklin.  My brother, Bernard, said it was really good so I watched it on Hulu and agree.  Aretha's music is timeless.  I added her Essentials Playlist on iTunes.  She relevant still to this day.  Her music does not come across as old or outdated.  It still sounds so good even today.

Song of the Week - Mary Mary Shackles

Image
Easter is this Sunday, April 4th and I wanted to kick the week off with a Gospel Song.  Mary Mary Shackles.  Love this upbeat song on their debut album.  Another song they had that touched me was One Minute.  The Duo Mary Mary are in the higher echelon of Gospel singers.  ENJOY!!

Sunday Song - Aretha Franklin Ain't No Way

Image
Aretha Franklin was legendary.  Looking at the series Genus:Aretha Feanklin I learned a lot about her and I wanted to listen to her music.  Her light shined for a long time.  Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul.

Gave Away 4 Radios at Rebel Clothing store Grand Opening

My friends have a clothing store and yesterday was the Opening.  They let me pass out radios.  Unfortunately I only had 4.  I wish I had more.  A lot of people came and bought clothes.  There are things that I should have done Like take picture of the radios that came in box and take pictures of the peole holding the radios that I gave them.

Listening to KLove

Image
Enjoying KLove broadcasting on my JESSON handheld radio.  This is defintely my choice to give away.

Selfie - Derrick W. Jackson sitting in my room

It's bright in my room.  Even with the light off.  Sun beaming thru the window facing the backyard. I am listening to KLove a Christian radio station.  Trying to take a cab, Uber or Lyft to go to pharmacy to pick up my medicine but none is available.  I miss the days when I could easily get an Uber to go to whereever I need to go.  I hope to get a car by the end of the year.  It will help me in so many ways including with I Donate Music.

Thinking of my Dad

Image
I was just thinking of my dad, Roosevelt Jackson who passed away in 2015 of cancer.  I remember he had this cool white and gray van.  My twin Eric had painted an eagle on the tire cover on the back door.  He loved that van.  Here is a picture I did of him in 2017. A song that remind's me of my dad is Avant's Sailing.  One thing that I admired about my dad.  He was deaf but he still bought music, records, tapes, and albums.

Hip Hop Friday - Drake What's Next

Drake burst onto the scene about 10 years ago and he has been hot ever since.  He continues to reside at the top of the record charts.  With the nod from Lil Wayne Drake with his OVO label continue to set trends.

My First Hurdle

Image
I ordered more Jesson Radios (See Below).  But it looks like you can order only 3 at a time.  I guess a workaround is doing multiple orders if that is possible.  Another way that I may be able to buy more radios in one order is signing up for Amazon business.

Evaluating Radios

Image
I already have a hand held radio that I like but I am evaluating another.  I ordered the Jesson digital radio from Amazon.  I like that it came in a small compact box.  The radio is small.  You do not need batteries that's a plus.  The battery is rechargeable using a micro USB cable.  I am currently charging the radio so I will update this post once I can use it. The radio is easy to use and the stations sound clear.  I like it and I really like that the battery is rechargeable because if the radio had AA or AAA batteries the person would have to go buy more batteries when it lost it's charge.  For now this is the radio that I am going to go with.

Fundraising ideas

Image
By trade I was a computer programmer.  I've had setbacks in my life where I turned to my writing and art skills. I've done quit a few books.  Visit www.sketchbookdwj.com to view.  I need to try to work harder at selling my finished works which the money can go to I Donate Music.

Positive Feedback from R Dub host of Slowjams a syndicated show on over 200 radio stations

Image
In the past I had tweeted and emailed R Dub.  He is a cool guy and he told me he liked the Idea of I Donate Music and to go for it.  I appreciate the feedback from someone on his level.  A lot of people on that level just ignores you when you come to them with ideas or projects.  Thanks R Dub.  Visit him at   www.slowjams.com  .

Getting up and running

Image
I have a lot to do to get I Donate Music to be a success.  I've got to read up on Nonprofits and what I have to do to set it up.  Also I've got to organize my ideas that's swirling around in my head. Success does not come over night it's one step at a time.  One day at a time.  One of my friends suggested I get out of the house and talk to people.  I know I have to do that and right now I don't have a car so  it's Uber, Lyft, Bus, or Cab for now.  My friend stated that I should not use that as an excuse.  He also asked me how was I going to reach people.  I told him thru the blog and then going to nursing homes, schools, conferences, hospitals and churches.  Nothing is easy but I am confident that I can make this project a success. I just called Richmond Community hospital in East Churchill about donating some radios to patients in the mental health unit.  Spoke to 2 people and left a voicemail for my contact.  So I am waiting to hear back.

Gospel Wednesday - Kirk Franklin Love Theory

Image
From the minute Kirk Franklin entered the arena, he was setting trends.  Some in the Gospel community pushed back on his updated gospel music sound.  He has stood the test of time and I looked forward to hear more from him. Recently there was leaked audio between Kirk and his son, Kerrion.  Kirk had used foul language.  We don't know what led to this but look no man is perfect.  We strive to be perfect like Christ but only the savior was perfect.  Hopefully he and his son will work things out.

Song of the week Babyface and Toni Braxton Hurt You

Image
Babyface and Toni Braxton are up there in the top tier of Artists.  Their project together Love, Marriage and Divorce was exceptional.  This song was a hit and it talked about a couple where one or both were unfaithful.

Welcome Again to I Donate Music

Image
Hi, my name is Derrick W. Jackson, and I am now living in Richmond Virginia since May 2018.  I had started this blog back in 2018.  Life got in the way but I am back to working on this project which I intend to make a non profit.  The purpose is to give Portable FM /AM radios at a cost of about $15 and 2 batteries with it.  Again this is not a non profit yet so the cost is on me.  I would love to hear your input.  Music has gotten me thru some hard times and through out the years, it has inspired me when I'm down, sad and depressed and when I just wanted to hear a woman say I love you and when I wanted to get pumped up for a workout.   I don't know anyone who does not listen to music. I want to donate music via radios to people to help them with whatever they may be going thru. For questions, comments and advice email me at idonatemusic@gmail.com
